Parish of Kildysart

We pray for the children in our parish who are preparing to receive the Lord in Holy Communion for the first time during our parish Mass on Sunday. 3 May, 2020.

Our preparation for the sacrament is a three way partnership between home, parish and school. We greatly appreciate the contribution of our teachers and we thank the parents who organise the liturgies and pray God’s blessing on all the children, their families and all who form heir circle of love and care.  

On the Sundays listed below, our parish celebration of Mass will focus on our children who are preparing to receive the sacrament and their families. The list of dates, including your child’s first celebration of the sacrament of reconciliation (confession), is as follows:

Congratulations to our Tidy Towns Group and the entire community on an excellent 2019 Tidy Towns Report. Kildysart was awarded an extra nine points this year and the report contains many positive comments and suggestions.

In their concluding remarks the judges stated ‘This was an enlightening and really enjoyable visit to KIldysart this year. Your hard work is writ large on your village, as is your obvious dedication. Well done on a great year’s work.’

The Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation: We have arranged meetings of parents from the parishes of Kildysart, Coolmeen-Cranny and Labasheeda-Kilmurry McMahon, whose children are preparing to receive sacraments in 2020.

Both meetings will take place in the Community Centre, Kildysart and will be led by Ms Lauren King, Chaplain at St John Bosco Community College.

The meeting for the parents of children preparing for Confirmation will take place at 7pm on Tuesday 8 October, 2019.

The meeting for parents of children preparing for First Holy Communion will take place at 8.15 also on Tuesday, 8 October, 2019.

First Holy Communion will be celebrated in St Michael’s Church, Kildysart on Sunday, 3 May 2020 at 10.30am.

Confirmation will be celebrated  in St Michael’s Church, Kildysart on Saturday 6 June 2020 at 11am.

The Coolmeen-Cranny Parish 2018 Accounts have been completed by our parish finance committee and our pastoral office secretary. The summary is as follows:

• Opening bank balance (1 January, 2018):                 €103,363,37
• Income during 2018:                                                 €51,670.17
• Expenditure during 2018:                                         €53,814.96
• Closing bank balance (31 Dec, 2018)                       €103,319.78

At the end of 2018 there were some items of income and expenditure pending which are not reflected in the bank balance.

We thank all the members of our parish for your very generous support for our parish. We are especially grateful to our parishioners who use the weekly collection envelopes and who take part in the tax refund scheme. This brings a substantial additional benefit to our parish, at no cost to our parishioners.

Our gratitude is also due to the members of our finance council for their diligent work in taking care of our parish finances. The members of our parish finance council are Mary Keane, Gerard Kelly, Brendan McMahon, Maureen McMahon, Noel McMahon, Dan O’Connor and Fr Albert McDonnell .

Summer Liturgical Celebrations: 2019

During the summer months we have outdoor celebrations of Mass in the various cemeteries and holy wells in Kildysart and Coolmeen parishes.

The locations, dates and times are as follows.

• Friday, 5 July at 8pm, Kildysart cemetery
• Sunday, 14 July at 3pm – Pilgrimage to Canon Island

We congratulate our First Holy Communion class together with their parents, teachers, families and all who love and care for them.

The children received the Lord in Holy Communion for the first time on Sunday, 26 May, 2019 in St Michael’s  Church, Kildysart.

We congratulate the young people from our parish who received the Holy Spirit in Confirmation on Saturday, 10 May 2019. May the Spirit always dwell in their hearts, homes, parents and families.

We thank Bishop Fintan for leading the liturgy & Ms. Lynch for working with the families and parish to help the young people prepare for this important day.

Marian Shrine, Kildysart

During the month of May, we pray the rosary each Wednesday at 8pm at Our Lady’s Shrine on the Ennis Road. All are welcome.

The Rosary helps us keep in mind certain principal events or mysteries in the history of our salvation, and to thank and praise God for them. There are twenty mysteries reflected upon in the Rosary, and these are divided into the five Joyful mysteries, the five Luminous mysteries,  the five Sorrowful mysteries, and the five Glorious mysteries. As suggested by the Pope John Paul, the Joyful mysteries are said on Monday and Saturday, the Luminous on Thursday, the Sorrowful on Tuesday and Friday, and the Glorious on Wednesday and Sunday.

The Joyful Mysteries

1. The Annunciation: Mary learns that she has been chosen to be the mother of Jesus.
2. The Visitation: Mary visits Elizabeth, who tells her that she will always be remembered.
3. The Nativity: Jesus is born in a stable in Bethlehem.
4. The Presentation:Mary and Joseph take the infant Jesus to the Temple to present him to God.
5. The Finding of Jesus in the Temple: Jesus is found in the Temple discussing his faith with the teachers.

The Mysteries of Light

1. The Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan: God proclaims that Jesus is his beloved Son.
2. The Wedding Feast at Cana: At Mary’s request, Jesus performs his first miracle.
3. The Proclamation of the Kingdom: Jesus calls all to conversion.
4. The Transfiguration: Jesus is revealed in glory to Peter, James, and John.
5. The Institution of the Eucharist: Jesus offers his Body and Blood at the Last Supper.

The Sorrowful Mysteries

1. The Agony in the Garden: Jesus prays in the Garden of Gethsemane on the night before he dies.
2. The Scourging at the Pillar: Jesus is lashed with whips.
3. The Crowning With Thorns: Jesus is mocked and crowned with thorns.
4. The Carrying of the Cross: Jesus carries the cross that will be used to crucify him.
5. The Crucifixion: Jesus is nailed to the cross and dies.

The Glorious Mysteries

1. The Resurrection: God the Father raises Jesus from the dead.
2. The Ascension: Jesus returns to his Father in heaven.
3. The Coming of the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit comes to bring new life.
4. The Assumption of Mary: At the end of her life on earth, Mary is taken body and soul into heaven.
5. The Coronation of Mary: Mary is crowned as Queen of Heaven and Earth.

We look forward to the Apostolic Work Society display in Ballynacally Community Centre on next Saturday 7-9pm & Palm Sunday 11am- 5pm, 13 f14 April, 2019.

 The Apostolic Work Society supports the Church in mission countries by prayer, fund raising,  supplying vestments and other Church supplies, clothes for children etc.

Apostolic Work commenced in the diocese of Killaloe, with the first branch and headquarters established in Ennis in 1955 by Mrs Evelyn Farron. She learned of the organisation from her friend Mrs Ferrigan, from Armagh, who had come to live in Ennis with her family. Materials were sent from the Armagh centre to get the work underway.

Ash Wednesday:

Next Wednesday (6 March) is Ash Wednesday, the first day of the season of Lent.

It is a day of fast and abstinence. Mass including the blessing and distribution of ashes will be celebrated in St Mary’ Church, Cranny on Wednesday at 9.30am and in St Michael’s Church, Kildysart at 8pm.

Christ spent 40 days fasting in the desert, where he was tempted by Satan. Lent originated as a mirroring of this, fasting 40 days as preparation for Easter. Every Sunday is a commemoration of the Sunday of Christ’s resurrection and so as a feast day on which fasting was inappropriate.

Ash Wednesday derives its name from the practice of blessing ashes made from the palm branches blessed on the previous year’s Palm Sunday, and placing them on the foreheads of Christians to the accompaniment of the words “Repent, and believe in the Gospel” or “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return”.
